- The urgent initial surgery required to render patients transportable for further evacuation to medical treatment facilities staffed and equipped to provide for their care. Forward resuscitative surgery is performed on patients with signs and symptoms of initial airway compromise, difficult breathing, and circulatory shock and who do not respond to initial emergency medical treatment and advanced trauma management procedures.
